Outpatient Treatment for Mental Health

Provided by Island Health

These services provide screening, assessment, treatment recommendations and referrals to Island Health Mental Health and Substance Use and external community programs.
The following programs are offered:
  • Urgent Short Term Assessment and Treatment (USTAT): Short Term Assessment and Treatment programs provide specific therapy to deal with acute mental health issues. Clients are assessed by a clinician and may receive brief problem focused one-to-one or group therapy and/or psychiatric consultation. If appropriate, individuals may be referred on to other services.
  • Adult Short Term Assessment and Treatment (ASTAT): The Adult Short Term Assessment and Treatment (ASTAT) team provides short term services to adults with serious mental health conditions. Staff members are educated in both mental health and substance use issues. A therapist works with individuals to help them achieve their mental health goals. Services provided include Individual therapy, group psycho-education, psychiatric assessment, community resource information and connecting individuals to other appropriate services.

Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) Navigation Link Phone Number for Clients/Patients: This service link central access phone number will provide help for clients navigating Island Health services for substance use, harm reduction and mental health. People seeking these services can call 1-888-885-8824 to speak directly with a Service Link provider. (This is not a line for health professionals to initiate a referral).
